NACCHO 2020
Howdy Neighbor!
GutMonkey had the distinct pleasure to present at the North American Camping Conference for Hemophilia Organizations (NACCHO) in January 2020. We’ve been at NACCHO annually for the past 14 years, and it always makes us look forward to the beginning of the year. Getting to spend quality time with new and old friends in bleeding disorder organization leadership from around the globe gives us a welcome summer camp boost in the middle of winter.
We are so thankful to the Arizona Hemophilia Association for hosting NACCHO, the planning committee for all their hard work, and for Pfizer for generously supporting our participation and presentations!
The 2020 NACCHO theme was ‘Home: a place where you feel understood.’ We felt immediately inspired by the NACCHO planning committee’s thoughtful focus and designed an hour-long conference kickoff to set the tone of welcomeness and freedom to be yourself. We put together a sequence of interactive games and crafts tied together by lessons learned from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. Fred Rogers welcomed countless youth and families into his ‘home’ via his legendary PBS show. Focusing on kindness and acceptance, we thought this would be a very appropriate catalyst for connection at this conference’s kickoff!

Meow we’re Talking! Haelynne Barron, GutMonkey’s Program Director, used a Mister Rogers themed puppet to talk about youth learning at the NACCHO Kickoff

Breakout Workshops Gallery
Gutsy Games without the Gear with Joe and Haelynne taught attendees how to build a bank of impactful camp activities without breaking the bank. Something as simple as kicking shoes into goals or a new version of tag can engage with campers and lead to quality debriefs and takeaways.
Tom and Joe taught attendees how a simple deck of image cards can facilitate deeper thinking and group conversations with their workshop, Get ‘em 'talkin’
Pre-Con
Pand and Tom facilitated an intensive workshop around helping campers meet their psycological needs and take meaningful learning take-aways.
